Review: Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood 1) by J.R Ward

Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1)
In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war going war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing their enemies more than Wrath, the leader of the Black Dagger Brotherhood...
The only purebred vampire left on the planet, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But when one of his most trusted fighters is killed - orphaning a half-breed daughter unaware of her heritage or her fate - Wrath must usher the beautiful female into the world of the undead...
Racked by a restlessness in her body that wasn't there, Beth Randall is helpless against the dangerously sexy man who comes at night with shadows in his eyes. His tales of brotherhood and blood frighten her. But his touch ignites a dawning hunger that threatens to consume them both...

When I first heard about BDB, was because of my friend, Liah. One night she said to me "Are you reading something special right now?" "No. Why?" "So get this book, and start."
She put Dark Lover in my hands and I started to read. And I couldn't stop until 4am or something like that. This vampires, are the vampires like we used to read: fry on
the sun, they're sexy, dangerous and they like blood. From people who walks with two legs.
Ward made a modern world with a dark side, that where happens the battle between the vampires and the leseers. And it's in the middle of this battle that when found the Black Dagger Brotherhood, "brothers" who are born to protect the civilian vampires from the leseers.
Other thing that is amazing in this book, are the characters. Every characters has
a distincter personality and "curses". In this first book, we're introduced to Wrath, a almost-blind vampire, and who is the last pureblood vampire of the Earth plus the king of the vampire race. But he doesn't like to "order" people. He likes to fight himself. I've to say, this is the first that i heard about a blind vampire, and I know that when you don't have a sense, the others become more sensitive, but... smell your partner? I can accept this with shifters, but with vampires... well, that was a little weird, but nothing that we can used to.
In BDB series, we've a difference from the vampire histories that we used to: In
this series, you can't be transformed in a vampire. Or you were born a vampire, or you're a human. And after a certain age, is when you're a full-time vampire. Before that, you can
walk on the sun. And this is the stage that our heroine is. Beth is a half-vampire,
who still is a "human". And she met Wrath because of a promise that he makes with
her father: He has to help her to "transform" in a night creature. Beth and Wrath
have a passionate night, and after that, things starts to change. Other thing that I like in this series, are the secondary characters . They've well developed personalities and we've funny scenes with them.
Well, in the end, this is a book that I would recommend for people who like sexy
paranormal romance.
