In My Mailbox (1)

In My Mailbox was inspired by Alea at Pop Culture Junkie and created by Kristi at The Story SirenThe idea behind IMM was not only to put new books on your radar but to also encourage blogger interaction. IMM explores the weekly contents of my mailbox & books bought. And sometimes other fun goodies.

January is being a month full with books! :) This are some books which arrived:

For Review:

SHE HAS A LICENSE TO KILL. AND CARPOOL.
Seeing Lucy Hamilton, you would think she is just like any other suburban stay-at-home San Francisco mom. She takes her three-year-old son Theo to the beach, playground, and the zoo. She makes organic applesauce, folds laundry, and plays on the floor with Matchbox cars until her knees ache. What no one knows about Lucy, not even her adoring husband Will, is that for nine years she was known as Sally Sin, a spy for the USAWMD (United States Agency for Weapons of Mass Destruction). And that’s just the way Lucy wants to keep it – a secret.
Ian Blackford, a notorious illegal arms dealer and Lucy’s long-forgotten nemesis, returns to the USAWMD’s radar, and they are forced to call Lucy back to action to lure Blackford out into the open. As she races to unravel the mystery that surrounds Blackford’s return (and get dinner on the table), she realizes that the answers she needs lie in a past that she’s tried very hard to forget. In a race against time, Lucy must fight to save herself, her family – and, oh yes – the world.
Now, “True Lies” meets I Don’t Know How She Does It in a rollicking debut novel that reminds us all that “some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall.”

Being married to Blake had been an amazing adventure for Maxine. Brilliant, charismatic, and wholly unpredictable, Blake Williams made millions and grabbed headlines as a dot-com entrepreneur. His only shortcoming was as a husband - first his work, and then his never-ending quest for fun kept him constantly on the move, far away from Maxine and his family. For five years, Blake and Maxine have worked out an odd but amicable divorce, with friendly though infrequent visits, a yacht he lends her every summer, and three children they both adore. Blake enjoys his globe-trotting lifestyle - dating a succession of beautiful, famous, and very young women - while Maxine raises their kids in Manhattan and pursues her passion, working as a psychiatrist, a world-renowned expert on childhood trauma and adolescent suicide. Then everything changes….
For Maxine, it starts when she falls in love with Dr. Charles West, a man who is everything Blake is not - mature, grounded, and present. For Blake, it begins when a devastating earthquake strikes near one of his palatial foreign homes, and he sees hundreds of orphaned children in need of shelter. Now, Blake wants Maxine in his life again - as a partner in a humanitarian project that could change countless lives. For Maxine, the choice is clear. But Blake’s sudden transformation - from carefree playboy to compassionate, responsible grown-up - raises questions she’s never managed to answer…and some she’s afraid to ask. After all, Maxine is on the cusp of a new life, about to marry Charles, and almost certain that Blake Williams, a.k.a. the Rogue, is a man capable of doing anything - except change….
An unforgettable story of two people pursuing happiness from opposite directions, Rogue is a journey of choices and the amazing opportunities that come together - just when life seems to have been successfully rearranged at last.

Debut Author Challenge 2011 Review: Unearthly by Cynthia Hand

This is my first review for Debut Author Challenge 2011, made by The Story Siren. This challenge is made to promote authors, who are debuting with their YA or MG novels in 2011. This review is for Off the Shelf Challenge and for Outdo Yourself Challenge. So the review is:

Unearthly

Title: Unearthly
Author: Cynthia Hand
Series: Unearthly - Book 1
Genre: Young Adult, Romance
Publisher: HarperTeen (Hardcover - 448 Pages)
Source: E-ARC received from Net Galley

In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees. . .

Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what it is, though, isn't easy.

Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place--and out of place, at the same time. Because there's another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.

As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make--between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?

In the beginning of the book, we're in a middle of a forest, which is catching fire. So, we see a boy in the middle of the trees, but he start to turn, we see that was just a dream. This is how we're presented to Clara, a quarter-angel, who lives with her mother and brother, in California.
We can see that this history starts a little different than the usual. In this history the protagonist already knows that she's a part angel, instead of discover that she's not totally human during the book. And instead of other books, this books don't focus only in Clara's powers and their development. Cynthia Hand knew how to mix Clara's development as a angel and her relationship with her family, friends and love interests. Clara has two love interests during the book: Christian, who is the same boy who appears in her visions and Tucker, her friend cowboy brother (I even wrote a "My Book Boyfriend" about him! Read here). When you get the book, you can think that you know the end, but the author knew how to make surprises.
Clara was annoying and selfish sometimes, but we can forgive her, because at least she knows when she needs to apologize.
Another thing that I liked in this book was Cynthia writing. I really could feel Clara's emotions. I could feel when she was sad, happy, worried or in love. I don't like books in first person, that i really enjoyed this one.
The only that I would change was the appearance of her family and friends. Some of them appeared so little that, I couldn't decide if I like them or not. Clara's brother was one of them.

This is Unearthly Australian Cover. I really loved the U.S cover, but this one was beautiful too. I don't know which one of them I would get!
So, in the end, this is a book which i'll buy when i get the chance, because this book I'll read a lot of times more! So I give:

I really enjoyed this book!

My Book Boyfriend (2)

Another week, another My Book Boyfriend! This meme is hosted by The Unread Reader, in which we show to our readers, characters that we're drooling for! This week, I'll talk about my new love of the week:

TUCKER AVERY

  • Books he's in: Unearthly by Cynthia Hand.
  • Appearance:

Her brother resembles her in nearly every way: same hazy blue eyes, same tan, same golden brown hair, except his hair is short and spiky and he’s about a foot taller. He is definitely part of the cowboy group, although toned down from some of the others, wearing a simple gray tee, jeans, and cowboy boots. Also hot, but in a completely different way than Christian, less refined, more tan and muscle and the hint of stubble along his jaw.
He looks like he’s been working under the sun his whole life.

  •  He's in the rodeo club.
  • He's Wendy's twin brother.
  • Why he's my book boyfriend: I loved Tucker since the first moment that I read about him, and not just because he's a cowboy (I really love cowboys :9), but Tucker is sweet, funny and caring, and besides that he has a body and a face to die for! hahaha
  • Who would be a perfect Tucker in a movie: I don't know why, but in my mind I pictured Lucas Till (the cowboy from Hannah Montana movie and he appeared in Taylor Swift's clips) for the role. I think he could be a interesting choice for a future movie (and he looks good with a cowboy hat :P)
  • Scene that make me swoon:
With that he whisks me out of the house to the safety of the barn. The horse comes to the front of his stall the moment we go in, ears cocked forward expectantly. He’s a beautiful, shiny chestnut color with large, knowing brown eyes. Tucker strokes under his chin. Then he puts on the new bridle his parents gave him.
“You should have told me it was your birthday,” I say.
“I was going to. But then we were almost eaten by a grizzly.”
“Oh, right. What about Wendy?” I ask.
“What about her?”
“It’s her birthday, too. I’m the worst friend ever. I should have sent her something. Did you exchange gifts?”
“Not yet.” He turns toward me. “But she gave me the perfect gift.”
The way he’s looking at me sends butterflies into my stomach. “What?”
“You.”
So, who is your Book Boyfriend of the week? :)
P.S: This week we'll have a Unearthly review :D

    • Why he's my book boyfriend: He's perfect. He's rich, he's handsome, he's caring and he love his wife more than anything else. And he loves to give presents to her hahaha Who wouldn't like to have a husband like this?
    • Who would be the perfect Roarke in a movie: A lot of people say that Hugh Jackman can be Roarke in a future "In Death" Movie, and I agree with them! If he lets his hair grow a little more, he would be perfect :9

    • Quotes"You cain't filter out CompuGuard in a few hours." Roarke sighed heavily, shook his head. "First you hurt my feelings, now you insult me. I don't know why I put up with this abuse." Then he moved fast, grabbing her up, hauling her against him and crushing her mouth with a kiss so hot, she wondered if her lips were smoking. "Oh, yes." He released her, picked up his coffee again. "That's why." - J D Robb, Interlude In Death (Out of this World anthology) p.33
Hugh Jackman"Less than an hour ago, you were telling me to stop whining, and now I walk in and watch you deck the primary on the investigation that's put me here. Just where do you stand, Roarke?" "With you, Eve. Always." "Why did you kick at me like that?" "To piss you off." He smiled a little, cupped her chin. "It worked. You're going to need some ice on your knuckles as well." She linked her aching fingers with his. "I killed your droid." "Yes, I know." "I pretended it was you." "Yes," he said again, "I know." He took her hand, curled it into a fist and brought it to his lips. "Want to hit the real thing now?" "Maybe." She stepped to him, into him, wrapped her arms around him. "Thanks." "For?" "For knowing me well enough to understand what I needed." She closed her eyes, pressed her face to his neck. "I think I understand you well enough to understand it wasn't easy for you to do." His arms came around her. "I can't stand to see you hurt this way." "I'm going to get through it. I'm not going to be less than you expect of me. Or less than I expect of myself. I need you with me." She let out a breath, eased back. "I'm going to let Baxter back in. Don't hit him anymore, okay?" "Can I watch while you hit him? You know how it excites me to see you pound on someone." "Let's see how it goes." - JD Robb, Conspiracy In Death p.252-253
"If you screw around, I promise I'm calling a couple of big, burly uniforms and having them remove you from the scene." Roarke: "But darling, it's so much more arousing when the police brutality comes from you." - JD Robb, Judgment in Death p.51

Who is your book boyfriend? :)

P.S: Someone can make me stop of listen "Supa Dupa Diva"?

Vampire Diaries #01 - The Awakening

Title: Vampire Diaries 01 - The Awakening
    Author: L.J Smith
    Series: Vampire Diaries
    Genre: Paranormal Romance
    Publisher: Hachette Children's Books

Elena is the school beauty, but she's bored, until a new boy turns up in her class. Stefan is dark and mysterious - and she's determined to get to know him better. When i read this description, i thought "Uhm... Maybe...". I heard that Stephanie Meyer has used this book as inspiration for the Twilight saga. I never liked the Twilight Saga, but I thought it could not be worse than Twilight.
