In My Mailbox (4)

In My Mailbox was inspired by Alea at Pop Culture Junkie and created by Kristi at The Story SirenThe idea behind IMM was not only to put new books on your radar but to also encourage blogger interaction.

This week, the mailman left in my house:

Review: How to Ruin a Summer Vacation (How to Ruin #1) by Simone Elkeles

How to Ruin a Summer Vacation (How to Ruin, #1)Moshav? What’s a moshav? Is it “shopping mall” in Hebrew? I mean, from what Jessica was telling me, Israeli stores have the latest fashions from Europe. That black dress Jessica has is really awesome. I know I’d be selling out if I go with the Sperm Donor to a mall, but I keep thinking about all the great stuff I could bring back home.

Unfortunately for 16-year-old Amy Nelson, “moshav” is not Hebrew for “shopping mall.” Not even close. Think goats, not Gucci.
Going to Israel with her estranged Israeli father is the last thing Amy wants to do this summer. She’s got a serious grudge against her dad, a.k.a. “Sperm Donor,” for showing up so rarely in her life. Now he’s dragging her to a war zone to meet a family she’s never known, where she’ll probably be drafted into the army. At the very least, she’ll be stuck in a house with no AC and only one bathroom for seven people all summer—no best friend, no boyfriend, no shopping, no cell phone…
Goodbye pride—hello Israel.
I think that almost everybody knows who is Simone Elkeles. She is writing the Fuentes Brothers series (I'm gonna to do a review about the two first books later). She wrote this series in 2006, and she was already dealing with people of differents backgrounds getting acquainted and falling in love. And the best part of her books is: You always can see yourself in the skin of one of her characters -Well, I can do that.- And it wasn't different with this book.

Friday Hops and some changes!

IT'S FRIDAY! \o/ So today is day of:

Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee's View and this week's question was made by Nakesha of Totally Obsessed! The question is:

Share your current fav television show! Tell us a bit about it...

Well, I've lots of favorite shows, but lately I've been watching a lot of Bones, while I'm waiting for the second half of the second season of Make It or Break It on March 28th (And the next day it's Lover Unleashed release day! It's going to be a great week!)

The premise of the show is based on an unlikely alliance between forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan and FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth. Brennan is the central character and team leader of the fictional Jeffersonian Institute Forensic Sciences Department. The show revolves around solving Federal legal cases by examining the human remains of potential murder victims. Dr. Brennan and her team provide scientific expertise and Special Agent Booth's perspective the FBI's criminal investigation techniques. In addition to the prospective murder cases featured in each episode; the series explores the backgrounds and relationships of its recurrent characters. The series is also known for its dark comedic undertones to, in essence, lighten the gravity of the show's intense subject matter.

Kaylie Cruz (Josie Loren), Payson Keeler (Ayla Kell) and Lauren Tanner (Cassie Scerbo) strive in the world of gymnastics, training at one of the best gyms in the country, the (fictional) "The Rock" in Boulder, Colorado. But drama hits The Rock when Emily Kmetko (Chelsea Hobbs) abruptly joins and takes Lauren's long-standing third place ranking. In the middle of the season, the girls become friends and continue their dreams to become future Olympians. Lauren strives to come out on top, but that title is given to Kaylie, who becomes the national champion when a bad fall on the uneven bars leaves Payson with a fractured spine and the diagnosis that she will never do gymnastics again.
As season 2 starts, Payson has the opportunity to undergo a cutting-edge surgery to fix her spine. The operation is successful, but it becomes clear that she will never be the same gymnast she used to be. Sasha Belov (Neil Jackson) advises her to become a more artistic gymnast, rather than the power gymnast she once was. Payson is initially opposed to the idea, but slowly comes around. After Sasha takes her to the ballet, she finds her inner grace and is determined to succeed. She develops a very close relationship with Sasha. The other three girls are very competitive as well and when Lauren gets together with Kaylie's old boyfriend, their friendships once again suffer.
Book Blogger Hop

Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Jennifer of Crazy-for-Books and the question of this week is:

"Do you ever wish you would have named your blog something different?"

The first name of this blog wasn't "A Book and a Cupcake", but after I named it that, I won't change for nothing :D

Well, you saw the new comment system, right? I changed it, because I would like to reply the comments that are left here, without having to make the blog look like a twitter. So, tell me what you think!  And besides that, I'm writing my review policy, my review ratings and my contact info -finally!-, so wait a little bit more! :D
Ah! Come back later to see my review of "How to Ruin a Summer Vacation" by Simone Elkeles!

My Book Boyfriend (4)

Wednesday, which means that today is day of MBB :D This meme is hosted by The Unread Reader, in which we show to our readers, characters that we're drooling for! This week, I'll talk about my love of the week:

VISHOUS

  • Books he's in: All the books in the "Black Dagger Brotherhood" series.
  • Apperance:
  • Well, normal for a six foot six, two hundred and sixty pound warrior vampire. Maybe the perception that he’s somehow different is because of the power in his eyes. His pupils are the color of diamonds, and when he stares at you, you feel plucked clean. It’s as if he sees the whole continuum of your life at a glance, and the beginning, middle and end are all known to him. He’s also sexy as hell. The tattoo at his left temple, an interlocking pattern of swirls, is gorgeous as it bleeds into the outside corner of his eye. He’s sporting a goatee, too, which is the color of his short black hair. On his left hand, he wears a black leather driving glove. That hand, I’ve heard, is capable of vast destruction and I’m glad it’s not out in the open.

  • V is son of the Virgin Scribe.
  • He has a twin sister, Payne.
  • He can see the future!
  • He's mated with Jane, the doctor of the Brotherhood.
  • He has SM fetish.

  • Why he's my book boyfriend: Well, I love V, because  he is the genius of the Brotherhood, but he knows how to fight too! And besides, I love man with some facial hair :P hahahaha The only thing that is weird in him is the fact he's mated with a ghost. Yeah, a ghost.
  • Who would be the perfect V: My perfect V, would be the one who is in the profile picture of the V of BDB in Twitter, but I don't know who is the person D: So here's my second choice: The model Andrei Andrei, would be a almost perfect V to me :)
  • Scene that made me swoon:

"Glad you see it my way." Vishous picked up the mug, took it to Jane, and handed it to her. As she blew across the surface, he kissed her on the neck. Then did a little nuzzling.
To him she was just as she always had felt, but to others she was a thing of a different sort. She wore clothes, but if she wasn't keeping herself solid and someone bumped into her, the fabrics compressed like nothing was inside of them, and the person who was in her path basically stepped through her.
It was a little strange. Plus, if it happened to be one of his brothers, V's territoriality got triggered like you read about. The thing was, though, this was the new reality, so everyone had to deal. He and Jane were both making the transition to her new situation, and it wasn't always easy.
But who the fuck cared? They had each other.
"So you're going to Safe Place today?" he asked her.
"Yeah, my first day at my new job. Can't wait!" Jane's eyes shone. "Then I'm coming back here to put in equipment orders for my clinic. I've decided to take on two doggen and train them as nurses. I think that's the best thing to do for security purposes…"
As Jane talked about her plans for the Brotherhood's clinic and what she was going to do for Safe Place, V started to smile.
"What?" she said. She glanced down at herself, brushed her white coat off, then looked behind her.
"Come here, female." He pulled her up against him and dropped his head. "I mention lately how sexy your brain is?"
"You were mostly interested in something else this afternoon, so no."
He laughed at her wry smile. "I was a little preoccupied, wasn't I?"
"Mmm, yes."

So, who is your book boyfriend of the week? :)

Friday Hops!

Today is Friday! Which means that today is day of memes!

Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee's View and this week's question was made by Aaron of Dreaming About Other Worlds! The question is:

If you are a fan of Science Fiction what is your favorite book? If you haven't read Science Fiction before...any inkling to? Anything catch your eye?

This can be weird, but my favorites sci-fi books are the Trek Mi Q'an Series, by Jaid Black. Or maybe that is my favorite book, because I don't know many sci-fi books. Or I read some sci-fi books, but I didn't know that they were sci-fi... Yeah, that is pretty confusing! lol

And you? What is your favorite sci-fi book? :)

Book Blogger Hop

Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Jennifer of Crazy-for-Books and the question of this week is:

"What book(s) would you like to see turned into a movie?"

I would like to see the "In Death" Series by J.D Robb. It would be sooo cool! All that technology! And Roarke... Uhm... Yummy :9

And you? What book you would like to see turned into a movie? :)

P.S: Don't forget to see my review for Personal Demons!
PP.S: Sorry! I'm going to reply all the comments! But only tomorrow x_x'

My Book Boyfriend (3)

Two weeks without My Book Boyfriend here, but ok, because I'm back hahaha! This meme is hosted by The Unread Reader, in which we show to our readers, characters that we're drooling for! This week, I'll talk about my love of the week:

BUTCH O'NEAL

  • Books he's in: All the books in the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series
  • Apperance:
  • Butch O’Neal’s presence isn’t over-shadowed by V’s. Butch is not as a big, but compared to other human men, he’s heavy duty. He’s about six feet two and his shoulders are very broad... and they’ve gotten even broader since I first met him, as if he’s been lifting weights with the brothers or something. He’s got hazel eyes and a nose that’s been broken a couple of times and brown hair. His attitude is cocky and self-confident, but it’s not offensive because you sense he can back it up and then some. And he obviously likes women. Not in a skivvy way or anything; he’s not an ogler. When he looks at you, you just have the sense that he respects you. (From J.R Ward's Interview with V and Butch)

  • Butch is a ex-homicide detective.
  • He's Wrath's "cousin".
  • After his late transition, he's one of the Brothers, and in the Brotherhood he's know as Dhestroyer.
  • He's mated with Marissa.

Why he's my Book Boyfriend: The first time that I read Dark Lover I thought that Butch would be one of that characters that just appear in some moments to help (like that detective in Charmed!) or we would just disappear, but I was happy to see that he got his spot in the books! He's a little ironic and stupid sometimes, but he's caring, he always ready to protect his friends and has a great style! hahahah

Who would be a perfect Butch? To me, Mark Wahlberg. Of curse that he smiles more than Butch, but to me he's almost like the perfect Butch.

Scene that made me swoon:

Except she went down to her knees in front of him, the gown pooling all around her in great waves of satin. Her voice was husky with emotion as she ducked her head. “I would offer you, warrior, this pledge of luck when you fight.” She lifted her hands up and in her palms was a thick braid of her hair tied on either end with pale blue ribbon. “It would be my pride to have you keep this on you in battle. It would be my pride to have my… hellren serve our race. If you still… would have me.”
Completely wiped out by the gesture, Butch eased down to the floor and lifted up her trembling chin. As he thumbed away her tears, he took the braid from her and cradled it to his heart. “Of course I would have you,” he whispered. “But what’s changed?”
She glanced back at the three females of the house in their majestic dress. Then in an equally quiet voice, she said, “I talked to some friends. Or rather, they talked to me.”
“Marissa…” It was all he could say.
As his voice seemed to have dried up, he kissed her, and while they embraced, a great cheer rose up into the vast foyer.
“I’m so sorry I was weak,” she whispered in his ear. “Beth and Mary and Bella came to see me. I’m never going to be at peace with the danger you face as a member of the Brotherhood. I’m going to worry every night. But they trust their males to be careful, and I… I believe you love me. I believe you wouldn’t leave me if you could help it. I… I believe you will be careful with yourself and that you will stop if the evil threatens to overwhelm you. If they can handle the fear of loss, so can I.”
He squeezed her even tighter. “I’ll be careful, I swear. I swear.”
They stayed on the floor, locked together, for a while. Then Butch lifted his head and looked at Wrath, who had taken Beth into his arms.
“So, brother,” Butch said. “You got a knife and some salt? Time to finish a certain mating, you feel me?”
“We’ve got you covered, my man.”
Fritz came forward with the same pitcher and bowl of Morton’s best that had been used at Wrath and Beth’s ceremony. And Rhage and Mary’s. And Zsadist and Bella’s.
As Butch looked into his shellan’s pale blue eyes, he murmured. “Darkness will never take me… because I have you. Light of my life, Marissa. That’s what you are.”

So, who is your Book Boyfriend of the week? :)

Review: Personal Demons (Personal Demons #1) by Lisa Desrochers

Personal Demons (Personal Demons, #1)
Frannie Cavanaugh is a good Catholic girl with a bit of a wicked streak. She has spent years keeping everyone at a distance—-even her closest friends—-and it seems as if her senior year is going to be more of the same . . . until Luc Cain enrolls in her class. No one knows where he came from, but Frannie can’t seem to stay away from him.

What she doesn’t know is that Luc is on a mission. He’s been sent from Hell itself to claim Frannie’s soul. It should be easy—-all he has to do is get her to sin, and Luc is as tempting as they come. Frannie doesn’t stand a chance. But he has to work fast, because if the infernals are after her, the celestials can’t be far behind. And sure enough, it’s not long before the angel Gabriel shows up, willing to do anything to keep Luc from getting what he came for. It isn’t long before they find themselves fighting for more than just Frannie’s soul.
But if Luc fails, there will be Hell to pay . . . for all of them.

First time I saw this cover, I thought this book would be a adult book, with some sex scenes and everything, but when I opened it, it was a YA book. Ok, no problem. I like YA, but I didn't like this book that much.

In My Mailbox (3)

In My Mailbox was inspired by Alea at Pop Culture Junkie and created by Kristi at The Story SirenThe idea behind IMM was not only to put new books on your radar but to also encourage blogger interaction.

This week, the mailman left in my house:

In the Night (Ryland Brother, #4)Every man has his weakness. And the Ryland brothers are no different.

But Wynthrope Ryland has always believed himself an exception to that rule, an exception to every rule. It is the only way he can justify his former life -- a life of crime. Long ago he took advantage of his astounding ability to remain undetected in the most profitable of ways ... and since then, he has been motivated only by the hope of somehow turning his wrongs to rights.

Until he meets Moira. Moira Tyndale, elegant, proud, even haughty, a beautiful viscountess in possession of a priceless crown of diamonds. She is to be the victim of his final theft, the one that will set the Ryland brothers free forever from the binds Wyn unknowingly created so long ago. And yet with only the slightest glance, Moira has him more enchanted than he ever believed possible. In her bedchamber -- the very place where the theft must take place -- he discovers passion heretofore unknown.

She is his weakness. But will she be his undoing?

There are dangerous seductions waiting...

I got the Brazilian Version of this book, and I've to say... The Brazilian cover is much more prettier than the original, in my opinion. And I didn't read any of the Rayland Brother's books before. Will it make any difference?

Laurell K. Hamilton

Guilty Pleasures (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #1)When St. Louis's most powerful vampire comes to Anita Blake for help, she is faced with her greatest fear-a man capable of arousing in her a hunger strong enough to match his own.

I got the Brazilian version of this book too, and I like the Brazilian cover more than this one.  I'm excited to start this one!

So, this is what I got in my mailbox this week.

And you? What you got in your mailbox this week? :)

Follow Friday (4) and Book Blogger Hop (3)

Today is Friday, which means that is day of memes! Yey!

Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee's View and this week's question was made by Ruby of Ruby Reads! The question is:

What is your favorite romance hero-type? Stereotype wise. Do you like the strong silent type or the brute macho man?

Well... I really love alpha-males, who are aggressive with others, but they are sweet and caring with their wives/mates/girlfriends/everything else, but a little of dominance in the bedroom isn't that bad... hahaha But, I hate that kind of heros who keep saying that crap "If you know what I am, you would run, so I won't tell you until a critical moment." I hate that.

And you? What kind of heros you like? :)

Book Blogger Hop

Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Jennifer of Crazy-for-Books and the question of this week is:

"Tell us about one of your posts from this week and give us a link so we can read it (review or otherwise)!"

This week I reviewed Dark Lover, the book 1 of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I'm reading this series again, to prepare for the release of Lover Unleashed, the book 9 of this amazing series :) Here's my review.

Review: Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood 1) by J.R Ward

Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1)
In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war going war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing their enemies more than Wrath, the leader of the Black Dagger Brotherhood...
The only purebred vampire left on the planet, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But when one of his most trusted fighters is killed - orphaning a half-breed daughter unaware of her heritage or her fate - Wrath must usher the beautiful female into the world of the undead...
Racked by a restlessness in her body that wasn't there, Beth Randall is helpless against the dangerously sexy man who comes at night with shadows in his eyes. His tales of brotherhood and blood frighten her. But his touch ignites a dawning hunger that threatens to consume them both...

Review: City of Bones (Mortal Instruments 01) by Cassandra Clare

City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1)When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder - much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing - not even a smear of blood - to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know....

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

This book was released in my country in October, but just in January, I brought the book. And believe me, I don't regret it.
The book start with Clary, a normal teenage and her friend, Simon, in the entrance of a know nightclub in their city, named Pandemonium. Everything is fine, until Clary saw a guy entering the club's depository with a girl dressed in a white dress. Nothing abnormal, but moments later, she saw two guys entering the same deposit, and one of them has a knife in his hand! So, that was when she decided to follower them. And this is how she met Jace, Isabelle and Alec. And how her life started to change.
When i read the synopsis, i thought the books a little different than it really is, but i enjoyed it anyway. Cassandra's writing style makes the characters really real and very distinct from each other. Everyone has specific problem, whether is with the family, friends or even sexuality, and it makes the book even more fun, because you can identify with a specific character, what makes more easy to connect with the history.
And the cover... The cover is so pretty! Even if the history wasn't that good, I would be happy, because I loved the cover! hahaha!
The release of number two in the Mortal Instruments Series, is scheduled for May 2011, here in Brazil. I don't even need to say that I'll buy it, because I'm anxious to know what will happens next in this fantastic serie! So my final evaluation is:

Book Blogger Hop (2) and Follow Friday (3)

It's Friday! Which means that is day of Book Blogger Hop and Follow Friday!

Book Blogger Hop

Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Jennifer of Crazy for Books, and the question of this week is:

"What are you reading now and why are you reading it?"

Right now, I'm re-reading the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series (I'm currently in Vishous' Book, Lover Unbound), to remember what happened in the series, while I wait for the release of Lover Unleashed, the 9th book of this series, this March! And I'm reading the Brazilian Version of Personal Demons too, because... It was in my TBR, so I decided to read! LOL
personal_demons

And you? What are you reading right now and why? :)

Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee's View and this week question was made by Katy of Vision Quest Fail, and it is:

What is the book you are currently 'pushing'? (Pushing mean trying to get people to read it)

Right now, I'm pushing the "In Death" series!

And you? What are you "pushing"? :D
